The Universal Declaration of Human Rights was created on December 10, 1948 when the General Assembly of the United Nations adopted and proclaimed the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. The Declaration of Human Rights was proclaimed in Palais de Chaillot, Paris. This document was created to lay down basic human rights that people believe everyone should have and follow. It was created right after the second world war and represents the first global expression of rights to which all human beings are entitled to at birth.

Many countries have adopted the UDHR, including Burundi; and it is stated in the UDHR that these countries must not violate any of the articles, but many countries violate them every day. There are articles about marriage, education, and the basic needs. Burundi is entitled to the basic family needs explained in article 25, but they are still engulfed in poverty because the government is not able to help, and no other countries around them have a strong enough government to help them either. There is little food, water, shelter and medicine found in Burundi. Article twenty-five states that you and your family are entitled to food, water, medicine, and anything that is needed so that they don’t fall ill, starve, or die. But people are dying from basic colds and starvation in Burundi. If the Universal Declaration of Human Rights says that no one should die from these causes, then why isn't anyone doing anything? This right is important because people are dying when their rights are taken away.

The poverty in Burundi is violating Article #25 which says:
(1) Everyone has the right to a standard of living adequate for the health and well-being of himself and of his family, including food, clothing, housing and medical care and necessary social services, and the right to security in the event of unemployment, sickness, disability, widowhood, old age or other lack of livelihood in circumstances beyond his control.

(2) Motherhood and childhood are entitled to special care and assistance. All children, whether born in or out of wedlock, shall enjoy the same social protection.
